Volunteer Now

Victim Services of Kingston and Frontenac is a community-based service that utilizes specially trained volunteers to deliver a variety of different programs such as crisis intervention, information and referral services to victims of crime and tragic circumstances 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Police, Fire and Rescue, and/or Paramedic Services called to an occurrence will, with the consent of the victim, contact volunteer service providers for immediate, on-site or remote, short-term crisis assistance.

Members of the Response Team are screened (including criminal record checks and reference checks) and professionally trained. Many of our current members come from the human services professions; others have been victims of crime themselves and want to give back.

Availability requirements for volunteers include; two twelve hour on call shifts each month from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm or vise versa. Volunteers may choose to do additional shifts should their schedules allow. Extra availability, while appreciated is not mandatory.

For each call, the Volunteer Team is sent out, working in teams of two at all times, whether it be a staff member or another volunteer. Types of incidents that may be responded to are sudden death, domestic violence, a motor vehicle collision, fire, sexual assault, or violence. Where volunteers go and what they do is as unique as the people involved.

Some volunteers may wish to assist our program in other ways (such as fundraising, events, and so on). While similar training and commitment is required, there are opportunities for this type of volunteering as well.

In order to be considered for the response team program you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age and have a working cell phone
  • Be able to demonstrate sound judgment and team work skills
  • Have access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license
  • Have no record of a criminal offence and satisfy CPIC requirements
  • Commit to one year of active service
  • Be ready and able to attend and successfully complete a comprehensive 43 hour training program.
